What is GPREP?
The Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership (GPREP) is a formal regional partnership between the City of Grande Prairie, the County of Grande Prairie, and the Towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley. GPREP coordinates large-scale emergency management activities across the region, ensuring a unified and organized approach when incidents impact more than one municipality or require shared resources. By working together, our partner communities strengthen regional preparedness, response, and recovery efforts.
What We Do
GPREP leads and supports emergency planning, training, exercises, and real-world emergency activations within the region. We coordinate Incident Command Post (ICP) operations, support Emergency Social Services (ESS) for evacuees, and work closely with municipal, industry, and community partners to build capacity and resilience.
Through collaboration, training, and structured emergency management practices, GPREP helps ensure the region is prepared to respond effectively when it matters most.
Regional Partnership
GPREP is comprised of and funded by five municipalities:
- City of Grande Prairie
- County of Grande Prairie
- Towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith, and Wembley
Personnel from these municipalities collaborate to prepare for and respond to disasters across the region.
Training
Our enrolled members receive standardized training in the Incident Command System (ICS) that enables them to perform emergency management functions in our own communities or any other community in Alberta. This system is also utilized by most emergency response organizations across North America.
Emergency Social Services (ESS) training is delivered through the Alberta Emergency Management Agency (AEMA). A progressive series of ESS modules helps team members build the knowledge and skills required to support ESS operations anywhere in Alberta.
