Evacuee Rights & Responsibilities
The Alberta Human Rights framework recognizes that people receiving public services during an evacuation remain equal in dignity, rights, and responsibilities. GPREP expects all supports to be delivered with respect, safety, and clear information.
Rights of evacuees
- Dignity and respect while receiving support services
- Protection from harassment or unwelcome conduct
- Safety, security, and privacy
- Access to basic needs support and accommodation where appropriate
- Access to information about available supports and expectations
Responsibilities of evacuees
- Prepare for possible evacuation and follow official direction
- Treat other evacuees, staff, and the host community with dignity and respect
- Respect the privacy and rights of others
- Cooperate with Emergency Social Services staff and follow facility rules
- Pay for damage caused by themselves, their household members, or their companion animals
